Recent school shootings, bombings, and acts of terrorism have forced administrators, school resource officers, campus security and police, and architects to develop advanced security strategies for quick and effective responses should a crisis event occur. The emerging trend is to develop security design guidelines for new schools to protect students, including evacuation and shelter in place. This session evaluates the efforts of the Clark County School District (Las Vegas) that is implementing a several-billion-dollar school construction program, and is developing school Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design guidelines.
