Analysing Conflict: a Systemic Approach

Solving a security problem is a process that sometimes needs more than a security solution. Sometimes the problem is a symptom of an underlying conflict between the Protector and the Threat. Unless the dynamics of the conflict are identified and analysed, it is difficult to see how a solution to the symptomatic problem can be found. By applying concepts drawn from System Thinking and Game Theory, the author will sketch a methodology for the analysis of conflict. Being the approach systemic, the methodology is applicable at the individual as well as the organisational level of analysis.
